A bicycle changes lives by increasing the distance a person can travel, what they can carry, where they can go & how fast they can get there. Volkswagen is one of the largest donors of the Bicycle Education Empowerment Programme (BEEP) in South Africa and to witness the change in motion, was incredible. As the client, UNESCO approached Makhulu with the challenge to capture the multiple narratives of the people whose lives were being improved through the Qhubeka Charity. As co-camera operator and editor, my eyes were truly opened to the stories of people whose lives were dramatically changed by bicycles.
