As 2017 drew to a close, me and my closest women welcomed the New Year with an adventure to Cape Point. We gathered our patterned throws, hula hoops, umbrellas, snacks and walking shoes and headed out for a seaside retreat.
Laughter, brown skin and solitude were the theme for the afternoon, while sharing stories and admiring the vast beauty of our coast line. I remember thinking that how I was born and raised in the southernmost part of Africa really struck a chord within me and I felt a sense of belonging and awe at where I found myself.
I had just bought my first underwater housing and took on my fear of shooting in the ocean. I put on my wetsuit and frolicked in the waves for what felt like hours. These were my very first images with my tiny Sony RX100 in the water.
