In 2019 I was contacted by an Australian sustainable swimwear label called Faer Swimwear. Jacqui’s enthusiasm was instantly contagious and we started planning our shoot with St Francis, South Africa as our gorgeous backdrop.

We lined up 2 models and set aside 3 days to shoot Faer’s new range of sustainable swimwear, which also boasted hand drawn artworks from up and coming female Australian artist, Tania Mason. It was important for us to capture the women enjoying the great outdoors in their comfortable and eco-conscious swimwear.

We definitely had good fortune on our side for this shoot. The amount of incredible coincidences that lined-up for us was unbelievable. While on recce, we were driving back home and stopped to give two young women a ride. I could see Jacqui looking back and forth through the rear-view mirror and we ended up being blown away by one of the women’s glowing smile and warm nature. We asked Mercy if she was available to be our third model and she met us at sunrise the next day ready to shoot.

To top it all off, at the crack of dawn, Mia McGregor (one of our models) and myself went down to our sunrise location, only to find the longest stretch of pristine beach covered in breath-taking turquoise and pink pools. We shot to our hearts’ content and could not believe our eyes. After talking to some locals, we discovered that the extraordinary phenomenon we witnessed happens about once every 10 years! The tide came up so high that the dunes were scattered with exquisite pools. We called it King Tide.

The images captured on that shoot have been some of my absolute favourite yet. I got to work with all my cameras, including my underwater housing and drone to capture the magic that unfolded before us. It was a truly phenomenal experience.
